Interview Summary
Austin talks about his early involvement in the anti-poverty program, mainly in Floyd and Lawrence Counties. He discusses the philosophical differences that existed within the anti-poverty movement in Floyd County. He talks about the controversy that occurred over healthcare services in Floyd County, Ky. He discusses the difficulties community action programs had addressing the real causes of poverty and talks about the tension between the Community Action Program and other anti-poverty organizations in the area.
