Interview Summary

This interview with Personal Responsibility in a Desirable Environment (PRIDE) coordinators Mike and David Vanover begins with a discussion of their childhoods. They talk about when and where they were born, and describe their childhood home. They also talk about what they and their friends did for recreation.
Next, the Vanovers talk about what inspired them to become Personal Responsibility in a Desirable Environment (PRIDE) coordinators and talk about the problems of illegal dumping and trash burning in Letcher County (Ky.).
The Vanovers then move on to the topic of recycling programs available in Letcher County (Ky.). The Vanovers talk more about the problem of illegal dumping in Letcher County (Ky.). They then talk about how the litter problem is worsening there. The Vanovers also talk about encouraging schools to participate in environmental clean up and recycling. Finally, the Vanovers talk about the issue of water quality in Letcher County (Ky.). They talk about the effects that illegal dumping and coal mining has on the water supply. The two also address the issue of funding environmental clean-up in poor counties in Eastern Kentucky.
