Interview Summary

Lewis briefly describes her personal history, focusing on childhood piano lessons, moving from Kentucky to Chicago and back, and the death of her sister. She describes her childhood home and the utilities it had, as well as how her family would deal with solid waste. She also describes how the community within Laurel County has changed from her childhood to the time of the interview. Lewis describes her work history leading up to her working with the Cumberland Valley Area Development District and PRIDE. She describes the work she does with PRIDE's septic tank loan program. Lewis goes into great detail to describe how the loan program works, who can be approved, how septic systems work and why people are hesitant to apply for PRIDE's loans for septic tanks. She also describes the importance of environmental education as well as what she thinks needs to be done to make her community cleaner and safer.

[The interviewers become increasingly hard to hear throughout the interview due to environmental noises.]
