Interview Summary

This interview with retired General Wajarhat Hussain begins with a description of the neighborhood in which he grew up in Aligarh (India) during the British occupation of India. He discusses the religious conflict in his neighborhood and then moves on to talk about his education, as well as the education of girls and women in India at the time. Hussain then moves on to talk about Aligarh Muslim University, including aspects of the campus and religious life at the university. He also talks about the role of Aligarh Muslim University in British India. Next, he talks briefly about his family and the individuals in his family who worked for the Indian Civil Service (ICS). Hussain then talks about the role that Aligarh Muslim University played in shaping and educating the future leaders of Pakistan. He then talks about his and his family's migration to Pakistan, including the property that they gave up in India. He also talks at length about the current challenges facing the nation of Pakistan. Finally, Hussain talks about the people in the Pakistan movement who he feels deserves commemoration.
