Interview Summary

Whittle tells stories from his days as the county doctor in Etowah, Tennessee. Whittle tells tales from his almost 4000 childbirths and 40 years in the town. Some stories include him falling asleep while driving and waking up in a field. Another of a gambler that was in over his head who called him, faking sick, as an escape route out of the casino. Whittle talks about raising a family in Etowah and what life was like for them day to day. He also spends some time talking about the community now and how it has changed. He explains how everyone moving in are building mansions and isolating themselves. Between that and the new Walmart that is endangering locally owned businesses, he says the future looks bleak for the community.
