Interview Summary
Mr. Gartrell, Former Commissioner of Aeronautics for Kentucky, gives a job description of his title and elucidates how he was qualified for this position. He explains his relationship with both Governor Wetherby and Governor Clements, and expresses his idea of running for Lieutenant Governor in 1947. Gartrell discusses being the commissioner during the Korean War, and his role to protect Kentucky's skies during this conflict, and compares the Harry Truman and Dwight Eisenhower administrations from an aeronautical point of view. He discusses his normal workload and atmosphere of his department. Gartrell ends giving credit to those individuals who were influential to his success.Interview Accession
