Interview Summary

Betty Kettenring talks about her birth in Stamping Ground in 1933 on property her family had owned for generations. She talks about her experience growing up in the small community. She talks about her mother taking her to Lexington to get her first job. She talks about her marriage and her three daughters. She talks about undergoing an operation which left her hospitalized for an extended period of time.

Kettenring describes her and her family's actions on the day of the tornado. She talks about the destruction their home and church suffered. She discusses her mental health after the tornado and the process of rebuilding their home, the church, and the community.
