Interview with Miles Green, January 26, 2022
Project: Peace Corps: The Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Abstract Miles Green, Ukraine 2017-2019 Green chose to serve in Ukraine after having watched the documentary, “Winter on Fire,” and after graduating from college with a degree in human development. He served in Nosachiv, a village, as a youth development volunteer; with funding from a grant, he created a rock music club in the high school into which he incorporated team building, English learning, and leadership skills for the students. Other volunteers joined him in creating a series of presentations about music and culture around the world which culminated into a youth festival that included other volunteers and local partners from surrounding communities. Green participated in PEPFAR camps locally and around Ukraine, and in camps for kids from Donbas, IDP’s from the war zone. During his year as a Response Volunteer in Dnipro, he worked with CARITAS building youth HIV programs. In 2020, Green was evacuated from Ukraine, leaving projects incomplete. From his host family, he learned to appreciate living close to the earth: planting, caring for and harvesting vegetables. From his experiences, overall, he learned: “I can!”, gaining much personal growth.Interview Accession
