Interview Summary

Robert Vernon Frampton, the son of Dr. Vernon Frampton, a chemistry professor, and Martha Elizabeth Frampton, a seamstress and clothing designer, was born on February 23, 1939. His father received his Ph.D. in Chemistry at the University of Minnesota and taught a Cornell University and the University of Texas in Austin. Robert attended public schools in Austin from grades 1-9 before his family moved to New Orleans in 1954. He graduated from East Jefferson High School in 1957 and enrolled at the University of Texas in Austin in the fall of that year. Robert transferred to Louisiana State University for his senior year and graduated with degrees in Physics and Astronomy. He and Francis Ann were married in 1962 before he enrolled in Graduate School at the University of Kentucky in 1963. He left U.K. in 1968 to teach in California. In this interview he discusses activities of the student organization, Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) in 1965.
