Interview with Christina Barone, June 19, 2017
Project: University of Kentucky Special Collections Research Center Student Research Experiences: University of Kentucky Libraries Diversity Fellow and Intern Programs Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Christina "Chris" Barone explains her life up to now, her reasons for applying to the University of Kentucky Archives Management internship for summer 2017, the university publications project she has been working on for the first two weeks of the internship, and the archival challenges, surprises, and processes and procedures she's experienced. She also reflects on the value of the internship for her future archival career, including the differences she has encountered so far between her first internship in the local history room of her local public library with a small number of archival collections, and this internship in a university academic library with many staff and collections. Topics include archival education, archives management, collection management systems (in this case, ArchivesSpace), decision-making in relation to levels of archival description and repository and researcher needs, and being a lone arranger versus working with a large group of archivists.Interview Accession
