Interview Summary

Paul Williams is a bluegrass and gospel musician who played in the Lonesome Pine Fiddlers and the Sunny Mountain Boys. Williams begins the interview by discussing his early life. Williams recalls his service in the Korean War and the initial stages of his music career. Williams talks of working with Jimmy Martin and J.D. Crowe to form the Sunny Mountain Boys. Williams discusses his musical arrangement process. Williams also recalls playing in music clubs and on the Louisiana Hayride radio program. Williams remembers what it was like to meet Ray Price and Elvis Presley. Additionally, Williams describes some concert tours he went on while playing with the Sunny Mountain Boys. Williams recalls moving from Shreveport, Louisiana to Wheeling, West Virginia. Williams highlights some interesting stories about the mother of his landlady in Shreveport. Williams considers the impact of moving to Nashville on the Sunny Mountain Boys. Williams discusses his life and career after quitting the Sunny Mountain Boys. Williams illustrates his desired musical legacy. Williams' lack of change in his voice over the years is explored. Williams talks of recent health issues and concludes the interview by providing some final thoughts on his music career.
