Interview Summary
The Pastor at Consolidated Baptist Church, Reverend Jones graduated from Dunbar High School and Kentucky State University. He discusses the role of the African American church within the community and its influence in the civil rights movement, the relationship between the white and African American churches, and the role of the African American minister in his community. Reverend Jones recalls the Reginald O'Rourke murder, and his own involvement in the civil rights struggle. White support for the movement, and the activities of activists Ron Berry, Abby Marlatt, Daniel Garrison and the Reverend William A. Jones, Jr. are detailed. Reverend Jones also comments upon the lack of African American-owned businesses in Lexington.Interview Accession
