Interview Summary

Shannon discusses his family history. Shannon's father was a medical doctor who served in World War II. Shannon's grandfather served in World War I as a chief radio operator. Shannon talks about his mother, who was a nurse at the Atlantic City Hospital. He discusses his childhood in Maryland, Colorado, Germany, Texas, and Virginia. He talks about the social conditions for African Americans, especially in the military. He talks about the reaction to the Kennedy assassination. He briefly begins talking about his years at the University of Kentucky.
