Interview Summary

Governor Wetherby begins this interview discussing the relationship he had with Republican politicians during his time in office, and highlights a few outstanding Republican leaders. He speaks of the democrats organizing for democratic political opponent, A.B. Chandler, and of the lobbying power of each of these entities. He stresses his opinion of the public employing organizing to strike, and explains his stance on labor. He considers whether governors today are as powerful today as they were when he was in office as well as the idea of power shifting from the states to the federal government, and wonders whether it is ultimately more difficult to be governor of Kentucky today than it was during his time. Weatherby discusses several constitutional changes he proposed while in Frankfort, as well as him exercising his ability to veto. He finishes this interview speaking briefly about the pages in Frankfort during his time as Kentucky Senator, and about socializing with the General Assembly.
