Interview Summary
This interview with Environmental Law Enforcement Officer Steve Swartz begins with a discussion of when and where he was born. He describes his childhood home, as well as how his family obtained water and disposed of trash. Swartz also talks about how he currently disposes of trash. Swartz then talks about his work with Personal Responsibility in a Desirable Environment (PRIDE) and makes suggestions for a cleaner and safer environment. Next, he goes into greater detail about prosecuting individuals for environmental crimes such as illegal dumping and littering. Then, Swartz discusses the issue of burning illegal trash in Eastern Kentucky. He talks about the importance of raising awareness of environmental issues and describes a program that encourages people to properly dispose of their trash. Swartz discusses the enforcement and prosecution of environmental laws, and how local judges support the enforcement of environmental laws. He also talks about educating older people about environmental laws and the importance of keeping waterways clean. Next, Swartz discusses how he collects evidence of environmental crimes. He ends the interview by talking about a program in Whitley County (Ky.) that recycles tires.Interview Accession
