Interview Summary

William "Bill" Stumbaugh served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Agriculture Program in the Dominican Republic from 1968 to 1970. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area in California, he applied for the Peace Corps while he was finishing up his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Upon completion of training, he was first assigned to the town of San Cristobal under the Agrarian Reform Agency. After a few months, he switched sites to Sabana Grande de Palenque where he worked with farmers to grow and sell peanuts, tomatoes and rice. After completion of service, Bill first worked in Michoacan, Mexico in pig farming. He eventually returned to California and began teaching in bi-lingual education. He received his Masters degree and Ph. D. in Education. He is now retired, living in Ecuador and working with International Rotary projects.
