Interview Summary

In this Issue of "Pondering Kentucky: The Magazine," Glen Bastin shares information about the Kentucky Gospel Quartet Contest held at the Kentucky State Fair each year. He speaks with Heartland, the 1991 winners of the Kentucky Gospel Quartet Contest. They discuss how they started, how they practice, and what they do for a living, other than performing. Additionally, a recording of their song "The Glory Road" is played.

Glen Bastin then speaks with John LeGregor, a wildlife biologist, to discuss the types of turtles in Kentucky. They discuss characteristics of turtles, behaviors, and if they are extinct in Kentucky.

Then, Glen Bastin shares unusual laws that have existed in the state of Kentucky.

Bastin also meets with Ken Byrd and Glen Birdwhistell, who are both auctioneers. This conversation focuses on what it is like to be an auctioneer, how their careers started, and the auctioneer competition Birdwhistell had won.

Glen Bastin then speaks to Liz Curtis Higgs, a radio personality, storyteller, and comedian about the shows she does around Kentucky. They discuss her career, and why laughter is so important. A recording of a segment from her show is also shared.
