Interview Summary
Robert "Bobby" Thompson, born in Scotland, was a Major League baseball outfielder. He grew up in New York and signed with the New York Giants after high school. He hit a home run that allowed the New York Giants to win the 1951 National League pennant, referred to as the "Shot Heard 'Round the World." The bat used to hit the home run is in the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. In this interview, he talks about his early years in Minor League baseball, playing against Jackie Robinson, his Major League debut with the New York Giants, the Giants' 1951 season, and the home run he hit that won the pennant.Interview Accession
