Interview Summary

Mr. Potter discusses the formation of Committee 101, the booster club for the University of Kentucky men's basketball program. He details his experiences with former University of Kentucky Men's Basketball coach Adolph Rupp, within the time frame of the late 1960s to the early 1970s. Potter talks of former University of Kentucky Men's Basketball coach Joe B. Hall, and his interactions with the IBM booster club (The Committee of 101). He explains how he balanced the obligations of being the president of the Committee of 101, his family, and his career at IBM. The various programs and initiatives that were undertaken during Potter's tenure as president of the committee are also mentioned. The legacy of former UCLA coach John Wooden is described. Potter assesses the basketball rivalry between the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville. Potter briefly talks about his favorite teams as a child. Subsequently, he highlights the various projects he orchestrated during his tenure as president of the Committee of 101. Then, the interviewee considers the skills he acquired whilst in the aforementioned position, and how these can be applied to his current job within the university.
