Interview Summary

Dr. William Markesbery (Medical School Student, 1960-1964; Professor, Department of Neurology, Pathology, Neurosurgery, Anatomy and Neurobiology; Director, Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, Director, Alzheimer's Disease Center, Commonwealth Chair in Aging, 1972-2010) compares his years as a medical student with his return to the UKMC as an associate professor in the Department of Neurology in 1972. Markesbery observes that the UKMC's growth has changed the student experience and that the medical school is not attracting high-caliber students, as it had in the past. He also discusses his role as the first director of the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging and its purpose, the study of the biologic aspects of aging.
