Interview with Rebecca "Becky" Anderson, June 5, 2021
Project: Peace Corps: The Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Rebecca "Becky" Anderson served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Moldova, from 2009 to 2010, in the Health Program. The idea of joining Peace Corps was planted when she met a girl who spoke of joining. After graduating with a degree in Psychology from Valley Forge University, Becky met a Peace Corps recruiter and decided to apply. It was an opportunity she’d never dreamed of having, growing up in underprivileged circumstances. Becky’s cohort, Moldova 24, trained near Chisinau, where she lived with a host family. Romanian language was a challenge for her. She was assigned to Iargara, in Leova province. She taught health classes at a high school, and trained nurses at a clinic to improve their record keeping and computer skills. Becky’s service ended early due to a medical issue. After recovering, Becky served as an Americorps Volunteer, at a community college in Washington. She initiated and design training for a Service Learning Program in which students travel to Nicaragua for a three month service project. Becky remains involved the RPCV groups, and often speaks about her Peace Corps and Americorps experiences.Interview Accession
