Interview Summary

Geoff Bock served in Kenya 1968-1970, living near North Kinangop, where he worked with the Ministry of Lands and Settlement to build a water distribution system for local farmers. He reports that as a project manager he became widely trusted by African administrators, co-op members, and contractors and explains how needing to communicate with diverse stakeholders and dealing with uncertainty prepared him for similar challenges throughout his career. He describes his living conditions and having a Land Rover, which enabled him to go to Nairobi to buy supplies and visit friends. He also recalls trips inside Kenya and to Israel and shares how his Peace Corps service helped shape his identity, and that he believes strongly in the value of national service.
