Interview Summary
Tom Hansell, a former employee of Appalshop, Inc., discusses his time spent at the organization as the assistant public affairs and program manager as well as co-founder of the Appalshop School Initiative and filmmaker. He talks about the beginnings of his interests in political activism, radio, and film, as well as how he stumbled upon Appalshop, Inc. He also discusses the films that he made while at Appalshop and how they affected the communities they were filmed in as well as the audience that watched them. He describes the mentors that he had while he was there and what he learned from them, as well as the peer group that he had.Interview Accession
