Interview Summary

Smith discusses his childhood in Letcher County and his various occupations throughout the years. Smith talks about challenges he has faced as judge. Smith discusses the beginnings of PRIDE in Letcher County and the programs in place now. Smith discusses the difficulties faced when trying to reach older generations and when implementing mandatory garbage collection. Smith talks about Southern Appalachian Recycling, a predecessor to PRIDE, and the work they still do in Letcher County. Finally, Smith discusses local politics in Letcher County.
