Interview Summary

Fred Vetter, Jr. graduated from Savannah High School in 1959 and enrolled at Davidson College in the fall of that year. He transferred to Florida State University and graduated in 1963 with Honors with degrees in Philosophy and English Literature. In 1964 he was awarded a Masters-in-Undergraduate School Fellowship in 1964, and earned at Ph.D. in Political Science and Public Administration in 1967 from FSU. He was awarded a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the Survey Research Center at the University of Michigan that same year before being hired in a faculty position in the Department of Political Science at the University of Kentucky in the fall of 1967. In 1971 he left U.K. and began a career in public service and private enterprise. In this interview he discusses his family's history and his early childhood in Savannah, Georgia.
