Interview Summary

Jenny Christine Wagner (maiden name Lovern) came to the University of Kentucky in 1924. In this interview she discusses her educational background and career as a teacher before coming to the university. She talks about why she came to UK, and her impressions of the school and of Lexington. She talks about majoring in English, and discusses Grant Knight, a professor who became a mentor and adviser. She talks about her relationships with other professors, including her experiences in a gym class taught by Sarah Blanding, and a science class taught by Dr. Funkhouser. She talks about her interactions with president McVey's wife Francis Jewell McVey, as well as Dr. Funkhouser's wife Josephine. She describes her classmates and the relationships between men and women on campus. She also discusses working in a local bookstore during her time as a student.
