Interview Summary
In this interview, Roscoe Spalding provides an African American soldier's experience in a segregated unit. He discusses his training at Camp Lee, Virginia and serving with the United States Army in India. Spalding talks about experiences on a troop ship to India, his duties as Quartermaster, and hauling supplies and fortifications. He also provides his opinions on integration, racial problems, camp life, recreation, and drug use. In addition, Spalding gives his impressions of India and Indians.Interview Accession
