Interview Summary

Dr. John Oswald was president of the University of Kentucky from 1963-1968. In this interview he discusses the relationships he formed as the president of the university with the state colleges and universities in Kentucky as well as the private institutions and their presidents. He talks about his participation in the Kentucky Council of Public Higher Education and his relationships with the other board members. He discusses his attempt to merge the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville.

He talks about his relationships with politicians, including Happy Chandler, Bert Combs, and Edward Breathitt, among others. He talks about how politics and various politicians affected the progress he was attempting to make at UK. He discusses the physical changes he made to the University of Kentucky campus during his time as president.
