Interview Summary

Priscilla Thorsrud Dolan served as a Peace Corps Volunteer with Brazil 1, from 1962 through 1964, in the Agriculture Program. Priscilla studied Journalism at Berkeley and University of Missouri. She was involved in 4-H from and early age, and traveled to New Zealand with the International Farm Youth Exchange (IFYE) program as a young adult. That experience inspired her to seek other opportunities to travel overseas. She was recruited for Peace Corps through the National 4-H Foundation. Training was conducted in Washington DC, Puerto Rico, and Brazil. It included Portuguese language, survival skills, and agricultural technology. Priscilla was assigned to Boa Parada, Santa Catarina, where she worked with the Brazil Agriculture Extension Service (ABCAR). Responsibilities included teaching nutrition, gardening, and home economics skills. She also worked with ABCAR in Florianopolis. Priscilla later married a fellow PCV, John Dolan. They remain close to others from their group, and have attended reunions in the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Brazil.
