Interview Summary

In this interview, John William (Bill) McCord, Jr., discusses being raised on a the family farm out old Richmond Road that has been in the family since 1880. He talks about going to Athens Elementary and paying tuition to go to Lexington public schools. McCord discusses graduating from the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture in 1949 after having served in the Pacific during WWII. He describes he live of the farm and jobs he had in Lexington in the tobacco market, Transylvania University, and the State Highway Department. McCord also talks about he and his wife moving from the farm to the Lansdowne Neighborhood in 1991 where he became active in the formation of the Lansdowne Neighborhood Association and the construction of the Lansdowne Neighborhood Association sign at Tates Creek Pike and Lansdowne Drive.
