Interview Summary
Lawson Scott Glasergreen served as an Americorps VISTA Volunteer with the Kentucky Literacy Project in 1991, and as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Guatemala from 1994 through 1996. After studying Fine Arts, Business, and Project Management in college, Lawson worked in the construction industry for about 10 years before volunteering for VISTA. Lawson married before applying to Peace Corps, and served along with his wife, as an Appropriate Technologist. Their training was conducted by CHP International in Santa Lucía Milpas, near Antigua Guatemala. After training they were assigned to San Jeronimo, Baja Verapaz, to work with Defensores de la Naturaleza, an local NGO. Lawson’s work included traveling to villages throughout the region, building stoves, water wells, grain silos, and solar cookers. The Glasergreens produced and sold artwork to raise funds for a micro loan project administered by the NGO. Lawson has been involved in many 3rd goal activities, through his artwork, writings, and story telling. In 2014 Lawson organized a Peace Corps Week at Palmer Station, Antarctica. He is also featured in the “Notable” section of the April 2022 issue of NPCA’s WorldView magazine.Interview Accession
