Interview Summary
Mike Kelsay talks about his introduction to punk culture around 1978. He talks about the difficulty of finding punk records at the time. He talks about the punk attitude and why the culture appealed to him during his youth. Kelsay discusses the intersection between punk culture and LGBTQ+ culture. He talks about when this intersection occurred for him, upon meeting Bradley Picklesimer. He talks about seeing Bob Morgan in drag at a bar and how that moment impacted his life. He talks about how punk culture and gay culture influenced one another. Kelsay talks about seeing Elvis Costello for the first time on "Saturday Night Live." Kelsay talks about how he and his friends were the only punk rockers he ever saw in person in Lexington and talks about how others in town reacted to them. He talks about what his time in the punk scene means to him and how it has impacted his life. Kelsay talks about one of the punk venues in Lexington, Pralltown Café, which was located in an African American neighborhood.Interview Accession
