Interview Summary

Quandt talks about her life and career as an anthropologist. She starts about by explaining how her childhood and especially her father played a formative role in her wanting to pursue anthropology. She traces her education from undergrad where she wanted to be a biologist, to her change of heart which led back to anthropology. Quandt talks about attempting to be a middle school teacher for 2 years but soon had to apply for graduate school, realizing teaching kids (especially middle school kids) was not for her. Quandt goes on to talk about her graduate school experience and teaching upper-level students and masters students. She also talks about some of her favorite projects in the field and how she is so successful at getting funding. Quandt also talks about the political side of anthropology and the difference between the scientists and the historians. Finally, Quandt shares some tips and suggestions for incoming anthropology students who want to get a job out of college.
