Interview with Diane Jones, March 8, 2022
Project: Peace Corps: The Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Diane Jones was born and raised in France. She grew up with stories of West Africa where her father represented International Harvester. Diane has a degree from Tufts University in history and political science. She was assigned to Togo in health education. She lived in Kabou and worked in five villages. She ultimately worked with both the elementary schools (mornings) and the prenatal clinics and dispensaries (afternoons) one day a week in each village. Diane used a motor bike to reach the villages. Her biggest challenges were accessing water and adjusting to life as a Volunteer. Her project was to end with a passing the baton to local staff, but a change in Peace Corps leadership continued the project, to the chagrin of the Volunteers and host country staff. Diane developed many friendships among her teachers, mid-wives, a host family … and found love.Interview Accession
