Interview Summary

Dearinger was drafted into the Korean War when he was 20 years old. He discusses his training and arrival in Korea. He describes his daily life during the war, including how they were forced to stay awake. Dearinger tells about being awarded the bronze star for carrying wounded soldiers to medics. Dearinger says they stayed in Korea even after the ceasefire was signed, but the conditions got better. When he returned to the U.S., he went to Fort Knox and had work details. After he was discharged, he got married and had six children and worked for Baker Bohnert Company cutting gaskets, installing conveyor belts, and fixing them. They bought a farm and fixed the house. He describes some family history of being in the military and some other anecdotes.
