Interview Summary
Ueland remembers her friendship with Robert Penn Warren, which began while the author worked as a professor at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis (where Ueland continues to reside). The hobbies that the acquaintances participated in are recalled, including swimming and walking. Next, Ueland gives her opinions on Warren's female characters, as well as the quality of the novels. African Americans in both the literature of Warren and in modern (1980s) society is discussed. Warren's personality is examined, coupled with the early days of Ueland and the author's friendship. Additionally, Warren's first marriage to Emma Brescia is analyzed. Lastly, the habits of Warren and the many people he associated with are reflected upon.Interview Accession
