Interview Summary
Jonathan Herst enlisted in the military in August 2001 after graduating from college. In this interview Herst discusses his experience as an airborne infantryman in the Army and his stationing in Italy. He also decribes his two deployments to Iraq, particularly his first parachute jump during the invasion, and his injury in action. Herst describes losing his leg to an improvised explosive device (IED) and his medical discharge. In addition, he discusses his work at the VA hospital after rehabilitation with other amputees and coming to University of Kentucky for a Masters in Social Work.Interview Accession
