Interview Summary

In this interview, Tyler Munford, former editor of the Union County Advocate in Morganfield, Kentucky, describes first meeting Senator Earle C. Clements when he was football coach at Morganfield High School, his impression of him, and the beginning of Clements' political career. He discusses Clements' position as county judge and the work he did, Clements' campaigns for the Kentucky Senate, and Clements' role in various other Kentucky politicians' campaigns. Munford also talks about Clements' senatorial loss in 1956 to Thruston Morton and Bert C. Combs' gubernatorial defeat in 1955. In addition, he discusses Clements' relationship with Governor A.B. "Happy" Chandler, and Clements' personality.
