Interview Summary

Thomas Ralph (T. R.) Solomon was an African American scientist and a professor emeritus of political science at Prairie View A & M University. In this interview, Solomon discusses his school career from elementary school to receiving his Ph.D. in political science from the University of Michigan in 1939. He speaks about how he became interested in politics while working full-time at a Detroit post office and the topic of his doctoral dissertation, the participation of African Americans in Detroit elections. Solomon also talks about the Agency for International Development (AID), an economic aid program he coordinated for Prairie View in the 1950s in Liberia.
