Interview Summary
Ellen Burke grew up in The Bronx, New York and came from a big family. She says that she fell in love with the Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) when she volunteered as a high schooler. She ended up going back to work as a permanent volunteer after she graduated college. Burke's dream of being a teacher guided her through her work and she played an essential role in the establishment of the childhood development program. Burke talks about her unique relationship with Father Ralph Beiting and some of the challenges the organization faced, such as finances and communication problems.Interview Accession
