Interview Summary
Caitlin Villarreal served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the public health sector in Kenya from 2006-2008. She talks about her motivation to join the Peace Corps after 9/11/2001, her experience in in-country training, and the friends she made. She also talks about living in the town of Kibwezi and working with Kenyan counterparts in the Volunteer Counseling and Testing Service to provide training on public health issues and pyscho-social supports for children who were orphaned due to AIDS. She talks about anti-American feelings in Kenya, but appreciation for President Bush’s AIDS initiative. She also discusses being evacuated prior to the completion of her tour of service because of violence related to the Kenyan presidential election.Interview Accession
