Interview with Josh Cain, May 29, 2022
Project: Peace Corps: The Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Josh Cain was a Peace Corps Healthy Communities volunteer in Belize from 2007-2009. He grew up near San Diego, and applied for Peace Corps while at the University of Evansville in Indiana after a fraternity brother went to PC Honduras. While he was initially struck by the change in climate to the heat and humidity, he also remembers the warmth of Belizeans and the country's food. He engaged in a number of projects in his village of San Vicente, including a school library, teaching elementary classes, building a community center latrine, and a village health survey. He also travelled in Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. On leaving Belize, he was inspired by his experience to go to South Korea to teach English afterwards, and stays in touch with fellow volunteers and San Vicente residents through social media.Interview Accession
