Interview Summary
Lois B. Moreland is an African-American political scientist and Professor Emerita of Political Science at Spelman College. In this interview, Moreland reflects on growing up in a segregated Washington DC and attending Dunbar High School. She speaks about receiving her bachelor's degree from an all female, predominately white school, Sarah Lawrence College. Moreland talks about her decision to pursue an MA in political science from Howard University and Emmett Dorsey's role in influencing her toward not only that decision, but also her choice of American University, where she received her PhD in political science in 1968. Her interest in American constitutional law and eliminating racial discrimination constitutionally that led to her book, White Racism and the Law is discussed. Other topics include a position she held at the NAACP, and forming the political science department at Spelman College.Interview Accession
