Interview Summary

Nancy Lee Fields, a participant in the Pikeville Methodist Hospital strike, begins the interview by discussing how she obtained her job in the hospital cafeteria. Fields then compares her experience of working at the hospital before and after the strike. Following this, Fields details a workplace accident. The beginning of the strike is then examined. The interviewee also talks of her family and children, and shares her thoughts and memories of the strike (the picket line in particular). The efforts of Fields in the strike are then mentioned. Additionally, the interviewee articulates the financial experience of her family during the strike, as well as strike strategies, church involvement in the strike, and how the strikers communicated with their non-striking co-workers in the hospital. Fields concludes the interview with the advice she would give to those interested in striking, and her favorite part of the strike.
