Interview Summary
Charles Bartlett discusses his first impressions of John Sherman Cooper and how their friendship formed through being allies on the issue of funding for the TVA. Throughout the interview, Bartlett discusses many of Cooper's political campaigns beginning in 1948. He also describes several Republican National Conventions. He talks about Cooper's appointment as ambassador to India and his decision to marry Lorraine. Bartlett talks about John Sherman Cooper's personality and his ability to get along with many different types of people of various political leanings. He talks about Cooper's relationships with many politicians, including Thruston Morton, Richard Nixon, George Aiken, and Prescott Bush, among others.
