Interview Summary

Billy Siméon shares his experience of the earthquake. He talks about what he thought caused the earthquake when it was happening and in the following moments. Furthermore, he describes the living conditions in Port-au-Prince in the aftermath of the disaster, for which he tries to identify some positive aspects. Then, he talks about his education and training. He explains how the state is to blame for the universities being nonoperational after so long. This leads him to comment on elections and candidates with respect to the development of Haiti. He reflects on the plan of the international community for Haiti. Finally, he shows how the earthquake has amplified the vulnerability of the people and consequently increases the level of prostitution and child abuse.
