Interview Summary

Hamidou Koivogui was born in the village of Kaipelta, Guinea. He began dancing and drumming with friends and soon won contests against other villages and then progressed to the city of Macenta and the capital Conakry where he became a member of the National Ballet of Guinea. He traveled several years with the Ballet throughout the U.S. He spent five years in New York and several years in Cincinnati teaching West African dance and drumming before moving to Louisville in 2014 where he lives with his wife and two children.
