Interview Summary
Rowena Noe is the daughter of J.T. Cotton Noe, who was a University of Kentucky professor and the first Poet Laureate of Kentucky. In this interview, Noe talks about her father's love of teaching at the university and his relationships with the students, faculty, and administration. She discusses the poems he wrote about his fellow faculty members, as well as his feelings on being named Poet Laureate. She talks about his retirement in California and his continued contact with the University of Kentucky.Noe talks about her own experiences as a student at UK. She discusses her relationships with her professors, social life on campus, and the atmosphere of the 1920s. She talks about her participation in the Alpha Xi Delta sorority, the campus theater group The Strollers, and the women's basketball team coached by Sarah Blanding.
