Interview Summary

Peter Castiglione was an infielder in baseball, spending most of his Major League career with the Pittsburgh Pirates. In this interview, he discusses his early interest in baseball, his Minor League career before World War II, the bombing of Pearl Harbor, his military service and duties as a radio operator, his return to baseball and civilian life after the war, his playing with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and players he played with and against, such as Ralph Kiner, Dixie Walker, Murray Dixon, Jackie Robinson and Bob Chesney. He also talks about the 1950 World Series, Branch Rickey, Leo Durocher, his (Castiglione's) being traded to the St. Louis Cardinals, how baseball has changed since he played the game, and his career after baseball.
