Interview Summary
Jim Andrews talks about his high school basketball career and being recruited by various colleges. He tells the story of the coincidences that led to Coach Joe B. Hall seeing him play. He talks about his experiences as a freshman at UK, including dorm life, his teammates, and basketball practices. He talks about the atmosphere on campus during the Vietnam War protests. He also discusses the turmoil surrounding Coach Rupp's forced retirement and replacement by Joe B. Hall. Andrews talks about his African American teammates and their experiences during the early days of the integration of the SEC. He talks about what it was like to play in Memorial Coliseum and tells stories about antics that occurred during games against Tennessee. Andrews tells a story about being caught smoking in his dorm and the discipline he received from Coach Rupp. He talks about sneaking out to a bar to see a J.D.
